BACHELOR OF GENETICS

Genetics is a crucial field focused on developing therapies for life-threatening diseases and producing innovative, cost-effective agricultural products and biomedical tools. It has the potential to enhance food production, improve healthcare, reduce agricultural dependency on chemicals, lower raw material costs, and minimize environmental pollution. The Department of Genetics at our institution is dedicated to advancing this field, offering the only such program in Kerala with excellent laboratory training under skilled faculty. The program aims to prepare students with a comprehensive understanding of genetics and biotechnology, applicable in medicine, forensics, environment, and agriculture. Future goals include launching research programs in molecular, medical, and population genetics. Graduates will be equipped with the necessary skills for a successful career in various sectors, including teaching, hospitals, food testing, research and development, bio-pharmaceuticals, environmental labs, and biomedical product marketing and sales.

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN AUDIOLOGY

The Department of Audiology & Speech Language Pathology at AWH Special College, Kallai, Calicut, offers a four-year Bachelor in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (B.ASLP) program, established in 2001. The department also offers a Master's in Audiology & Speech Language Pathology (MASLP) since 2006, with additional Master's programs in Audiology (M.Sc AUD) and Speech Language Pathology (M.Sc SLP) introduced in 2021 and 2022, respectively. These two-year M.Sc. programs, spanning four semesters, are approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) and affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS). The curriculum emphasizes theory, practical, and clinical training. Graduates are prepared to teach, conduct research, diagnose and manage hearing and balance disorders, counsel patients and families, implement rehabilitation programs, serve as disability certification authorities, collaborate with allied professionals, promote public education, advocate for patients, advise on policy issues, and manage educational institutions.

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY

BACHELOR OF AUDIOLOGY AND SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY

The Bachelor in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (BASLP) is a four-year undergraduate program offered by the Department of Audiology & Speech Language Pathology at AWH Special College, Kallai, Calicut. Established in 2001, the department has been actively involved in academic and clinical training in Speech and Hearing. In addition to the B.ASLP, the department offers a Master’s program in Audiology & Speech Language Pathology (MASLP) since 2006, and separate Master’s programs in Audiology (M.Sc AUD) and Speech Language Pathology (M.Sc SLP) since 2021 and 2022, respectively. Approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) and affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), these programs emphasize theory, practical, and clinical training. Graduates are equipped to prevent, assess, and rehabilitate speech, language, hearing, and related disorders, engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, advocate for individuals with these disorders, and participate in public awareness and education programs.

BACHELOR OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

Established in 1995, the Department of Computer Science at our college is dedicated to providing globally relevant education in Information Technology. We offer a four-year degree course in Computer Science affiliated with the University of Calicut. Our focus is on fostering the all-round development of students to prepare them for various challenges they may encounter in their careers. The field of computer science offers vast and rewarding career prospects. With ongoing advancements in information technology, specialists in this field are in high demand. Career options include roles such as Application Analyst, Database Administrator, Games Developer, Information Systems Manager, Systems Analyst, Web Designer, Data Scientist, Technical Support Representative, and Software Engineer. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN GEOLOGY

The Department of Geology delves into the scientific exploration of Earth's structure, composition, history, and processes. Geology encompasses a diverse range of disciplines such as physics, chemistry, and biology to understand geological phenomena and features. Geologists analyze rocks, minerals, fossils, landforms, and natural resources to gain insights into Earth's evolution and dynamics. Geology plays a vital role in numerous aspects of society. It aids in predicting and mitigating natural disasters like earthquakes and landslides, contributes to resource exploration and extraction, informs environmental management practices, ensures stable infrastructure development, studies past climate change events, and manages water resources sustainably. Through fieldwork, laboratory analysis, remote sensing, and computational modeling, geologists generate crucial insights that inform decision-making in industries such as energy, mining, environmental conservation, and civil engineering. The Department of Geology is instrumental in advancing our understanding of Earth and addressing global challenges.

MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK

The MSW program is a two-year course focusing on preparing students for careers in social work, particularly in areas such as rural and urban community development, hospitals, family counseling, school social work, child welfare, and NGO administration. The course, affiliated with the University of Calicut, is structured into four semesters with specializations in Community Development and Medical and Psychiatric Social Work. Each semester includes a mix of theory and fieldwork activities. The first two semesters cover six papers each along with concurrent fieldwork. The third semester offers two electives, four compulsory papers, and fieldwork. The final semester includes two compulsory papers, two electives, a project, and placements. Career prospects for MSW graduates are promising, with opportunities in NGOs, counseling centers, training institutions, and various projects supported by international organizations like UNESCO, UNICEF, the World Bank, and WHO. MSW professionals are highly sought after both nationally and internationally for their expertise in social work and community development.

MASTER OF PHYSIOTHERAPY (MPT)

Established in 1996, the Physiotherapy Department at AWH Special College is renowned for its contributions to education and practice in physiotherapy. Graduates from this department are recognized globally for their academic excellence and significant contributions. The college offers four elective Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) programs specializing in Neurology, Musculoskeletal and Sports, Cardiorespiratory, and Pediatrics. These two-year full-time programs aim to develop leaders, enhance patient care, and promote research in physiotherapy. Physiotherapists have diverse job opportunities in hospitals, outpatient clinics, community setups, sports centers, rehabilitation schools, and academic institutions, offering ample room for growth and impact both nationally and internationally.

The Physiotherapy Department in AWH Special College was established in the year 1996 as a beacon light of hope in the emerging field Physiotherapy education and practice. The College, during the past seventeen years, has gained a name in the profession inside an outside the state.
